Are Barack Obama’s Statements on Faith Biblical?
The information in this article was taken directly from the official website of president-elect Barack Obama on Tuesday, November 11, 2008. This allows readers to easily verify all quotes for themselves.
The site allows the visitor to navigate to a section entitled, “People” with a subsection entitled, “People of Faith”. It is here where the visitor reads, “Barack Obama is a committed Christian.” The visitor may also download the file ObamaonFaith.pdf which highlights “key values in Barack Obama’s public statements on faith and politics.”
His doctrine on religion sounds positive, serene, and like it is one that’s long overdue for adoption by the American people. However, Christians, in particular, evangelical Christians, claim belief and adherence to the doctrine of Christ above that of anyone else. The Christian doctrine on faith, according to believers in Christ, is prescribed in the collection of scriptures known as the Holy Bible. Although the claim that the Bible can be interpreted in many different ways, it’s interesting to observe that such a claim quickly vanishes at the presentation of actual scripture quoted word for word.
In Obama’s public statements on faith and politics and in the book, “The Audacity of Hope,” his peaceful sounding philosophy is made clear. He stated that faith should not be a wedge to divide. He also stated that faith is thought of as a source of comfort and understanding, but that the expressions of faith sow division, tension and conflict. These are his words accurately paraphrased; again, they can be easily verified by visiting his official website.
Barack Obama’s words are not in agreement with the words of Jesus, the author of Christianity. The Lord never said that this present world would or ever should see religious harmony because everyone will not choose to serve him. The Lord himself said in the scripture of Matthew 10:34-36, “think not that I am come to send peace on earth. I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance (conflict) against his father and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes (enemies) shall be they of his own household.” Jesus could not have been any more forceful or clear in his prophecies regarding deception and how changing attitudes will cause his true followers to be viewed as the world’s last obstacle to universal peace.
Why is this? Because while the majority preaches that all paths lead to God, true Christians preach that Jesus is the only way to God. This is the division that divides even households. This is the division that labels the followers of Christ as barriers to international harmony. This is the division that leads to Christians being the target of pure hatred – hatred for spirit of Christ that dwells in them. Nevertheless, God has servants who will not compromise knowing that Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth , and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me” (KJV, St. John 14:6).
Again, the scripture of 1 John 5:20 says, “and we know that the Son of God is come and hath given us an understanding that we may know him that is true. And we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”
